Monday Sunrise

IMG_0436

I headed to the lake for the sunrise with my new telephoto lens.  I was spending so much time playing with the manual focus I did not notice the deer in the picture crossing the lake until I uploaded the pic to the computer.  I would love to say I set this picture up but it was just by chance

IMG_0435

I was beaten down to the lake by one of our 2 resident rabbits who apparently went down the steps this morning along with a light new snowfall

My email problems are still not solved and driving me crazy.  We have switched servers, it is not the computer as I have tried down loading to this on and the old computer.  I have checked them on line and they are not on the website there either.  I am about to change the email address if needed.  Until I straighten this out use jenny@blackscliffresort.com to contact us

Bear’s and Laser Lights

lake-minocqua-lasers

I would love to take credit for this picture but the kudos go to Bryon.  He was in the right place at the right time and knows how to work his camera.  There was a light mist, clear skis, The Beacons on Lake Minocqua lite up, and 3 snowmobiles heading across the lake at 85 miles an hour.  Awesome pic!!  Kudos Bryon

For those that need something to get them through the end of winter check out the link above to a live cam in a bear den with new cubs.  It is pretty cool.  The cubs were just born last week

I would like to preform a test on my email.  I would like folks to send an email to both info@blackscliff.com and jenny@blackscliffresort.com   I think I have things straightened out but if I get a bunch of emails to both addresses it will give me peace of mind.

A Divisional Swim meet for 2 days Sat and Sun and before that Basketball games Thur and Fri in Wausau have bitten into time with the camera outside.  New pics I promise by Monday when hopefully we have fresh snow.  Good news the trips to Wausau aloud us to pic up the telephoto lens from Best Buy.  Now to figure it out..

Snow Sun – Wednesday

Busy day and the camera did not come out.  I hear that the crappies and Perch were biting quite well today still at the famous fishing hole.  Nobody brought pics back today though so you will just have to believe it.  I copied below the rumbelings I have been hearing about a snowstorm early next week.  I coped www.johndee.com forecast.  It is backed up by the National Weather Service.  The ski trails have been in good to excellent shape, snowmobile in good to fair condition.  If this pans out the condtions should be the best of the winter.  I have 5 cabins left for next weekend so don’t wait to long

HIGHLIGHTS:

Snows will fall in much of the Midwest today and tonight and much of the region looks to see snows early next week, with totals increased with that event for much of the region. Cold air will dry things out and lead to some LES the second half of next week.

1-4 DAY FORECAST:

Snows and some rains will continue to fall across much of the region today. In MN, IA, northern MO, northern IL and southwest WI, snows of around 1-2″ look to fall in the next 24 hours, with some locales seeing a bit more than 2″ occur. In areas like southern IL, most of IN and OH, rains will be changing to snow and totals of 2-5″ look to fall, although a solid 4-8″ looks to fall in far southeast IL as well as into the southern 2/3rds of IN and OH, with some locales in southeast OH seeing more than 8″ fall by around midday tomorrow.

About the only areas to not see much in the way of snow occur with this event will be upper and lower MI and the far northern sections of WI.

Things then look to quiet down for most of the weekend, with just a bit of LES possible in the UP and NWL MI as some cooler starts to bleed in from the north. Winds look to be generally out of the north, so most areas from Ironwood to Paradise stand the chance to see a bit of light snow fall, but totals look to be around an inch, maybe two every 24 hours.

By later in the weekend, the next system will start to spread some snows into the western Midwest. This next system will actually be two nearly separate systems that will eventually join forces by early next week. The models are in pretty good agreement on things and it looks like this system will bring some fairly respectable snows to just about everyone in the Midwest. It is still a little early to be putting full faith into the details, but right now it looks like one will be hard pressed to find a spot in the Midwest that does not see at least 4″ of snow occur and there could be quite a few locales that see as much as 6-8″ fall (including the snow starved Northwoods) and places like the lake snow belts and some areas of the OH River Valley could see 8″+ fall with this event.

Temps for the next day or two will be running average to a bit above. The Northwoods will see 20’s for highs, with lows in the single digits. The rest of the northern Midwest will stay below freezing all week, with the freeze line sitting along or just to the south of I-80. As we work through the weekend, some cooler air will start to move in. Nothing too cold too out of hand, but highs in the Northwoods will likely drop into the teens, with 20’s down to I-80 and 30’s south of that.

5-10 DAY FORECAST:

Things look to quiet down across the Midwest by later Tuesday night or early Wednesday and then look to remain quiet in the majority of the Midwest into the end of next week.

The potential for some meaningful snows in LES belts still exists for Wednesday into early Thursday before that activity quiets down.

Temps next week look to run below average. Highs in the Northwoods look to run in the teens and low 20’s, with highs elsewhere in the 20’s to low 30’s. The freeze line next week should be sitting in the far southern Midwest.

I have been having trouble with emails for the last month.  If you did not get a receive a response to an email please try again to resend.

I have a 2nd email address that I have had no problems with and you may want to put it in your files just in case

In the meantime I have switched servers and am hoping that takes care of the problem

Grandpa’s Fishing Hole

0202001602a

I sent the folks in Bayview over to Grandpa Gibson’s fishing hole to see what they could catch.  For 4 days in a row they have returned with a catch this size, enough for a fish fry every night.  They managed to get into the perch that Grandpa could not get to bit.  All were caught on Wigglers from the Marathon Station.

0202001604

I love the beer can in the pic with the fish.  I think it was a fun day on the ice.  Peace, Quiet, Fish, a cold beer, comfy chair and a warm coat

Now that I have my fishermen and women clamping at the bit to fish…. did I mention that I have cabins left open this weekend and the secret fishing spot stacked out….  sorry to temp those sitting behind a desk that can not leave but had to mention

Fish still biting

Been a long day.  I thought I had icefishing pics to post from the folks in Bayview.  They have had luck the last 3 afternoons in the crappie fishing hot spot.  We tried a few things to get their pics from their camera on my computer but it did not work.  They have caught perch and crappie each day enough to have a fish fry each night.  They even grilled out one night

New pics coming tomorrow

Who needs a groundhog

IMG_0410

Who needs a Ground Hog when Black’s Cliff has pigs, pigs and more pigs to make a prediction.  Oreo, Dumbledore and Boo were more than happy to hare their opinion on the length of winter this morning

IMG_0413

Oreo was a little unsure and seemed to take a middle of the road approach, willing to stick her nose out to see what winter had left to offer

IMG_0417

Junior the youngest and more inexperienced was willing to hang out and be the daredevil asking for 6 more weeks

IMG_0423

Hoover our recluse has not been out of her igloo since a ninety degree day last summer was giving her entire opinion of winter and cameras.  Boo and Dumbledore were already munching on hay this morning and had no opinion.

What will winter bring…..  3 different opinions from the experts.  In the meantime Poe is happy infront of the fire with his pig’s ear and the Guinea Pigs are giving him dirty looks

Black’s Cliff endorses Guinea Pigs as the best pocket pet for kids that there is.

Fishing Report for Lower Kaubashine

IMG_0359

Had a group of guys up fishing this weekend who listened to my advice on their 2nd day and headed over to where Grandpa Gibson was fishing.  They did not start until 11 am and slow and steady all afternoon had the crappies coming through.  The top 2 crappies were about 13 or so inches give or take maybe an inch more.  They would catch 3 or 4 and then it was quiet for 40 minutes.  All of them were caught on Wigglers (Mayfly Larva) that they picked up in town.  Under the stack is one of the finicky perch that eluded Grandpa Gibson earlier in the week.  They only caught one perch the rest were crappie.  Had the walleye tip ups out as well but only found the crappie

IMG_0360

The day before they headed to Big Arb and caught these perch.  They said the fishing was much better on Lower Kaubashine

Squirrel Mind readers needed
