Sunrise this morning.  The sun was spotted for just a couple of brilliant minutes.  The coloring of it was amazing

DSC04585

Heading down to the lake the sun was still caught behind the trees

The last that was seen of the sun

Coming tomorrow, Troy’s battle with the squirrels

It was a duck gathering on Lower Kaubashine this morning.  I spotted these and about 30 others gathering a still Lower Kaubashine this morning.  I know there is a duck guru out there that knows what kind they are.  Without looking them up I believe they are Merganzers?

DSC04579

They were all camera shy and took off to the other side of the lake.  You can see in this pic how still the lake was

Everything out and lake shore ready for winter

My favorite shot of the snag showing bare trees and quiet late fall on Lower Kaubashine

I am starting to put together the 2010 calendar they are going to be 20 a piece.  If you are interested send me an email at info@blackscliff.com with how many you would like so I get an idea of how many I am ordering.  I hope to put them in the mail after Thanksgiving or the 1st week in December so they will be in plenty of time for being under the tree

Ice in the bay this morning as temps dipped into the lower 20’s last night.  Winter is knocking on the door

We left the Northwoods for the weekend for a visit with family, thus no blog entries for a few days.  The Resort, John Deer Gator Keys, guinea pigs and Poe were in the capable hands of Nathan and Jamie.  Thanks to them for keeping an eye on things while Grandpa Gibson took us down a road less traveled in the Minivan.

We were off on a country adventure through all sorts of small cemeteries looking for Geo Caches.  This one we almost did not find and when we did had to fish it out of the pipe.  Putting it back in Troy threw a few more rocks down the tube and caused the top to not fit.  A few neighbors drove by slowing down to check out the suspicious family tearing apart the graveyard.

DSC00047

After using 2 screwdrivers and many rocks we got everything back into place before the police arrived to check us out

DSC04547

We had been talking for 2 years about visiting Meridean to find The Ghost of Meridean geocache.  It was supposed to have ghosts and the hounds of hell being spotted in the area.  Took us awhile to find the cemetary.  Ran into a local who talked about visiting the cemetary at night and being chased off by a gun carrying neighbor.  We were happy to see the neighbor did not look like he was home

DSC04560

We did not see anything unusual, but it was definitely the smallest and creepiest cemetery I have ever been to.

DSC04556

After geo caching we took a trip out to the Coon Creek Farm to visit Vince, Julie, Sasha and Illian our favorite Organic chicken and turkey farmers.  We got up close and personal with a few of the locals

DSC04557

Some of us got a little closer than others…  did we have a hitchhiker back to the Northwoods….. I shall leave you in suspense.  We did head out with our Thanksgiving turkeys for the whole family and filled a few cartons of eggs.  If you have never tried organic free range birds or eggs there is truly a difference.  Thanks Vince and Julie.

Time to head back to the Northwoods to get Deer Camp 2009 ready for the arriving hunters next weekend

It is a small pic, I downloaded it from a friends sight.  This was her view of Lake Minocqua yesterday from SaveMore.  Only in Minocqua can you grocery shop with such good views

I really do love every month and season in the Northwoods.  But there are some months that lend themselves better to the blog than others.  November is not one of them.  I do love the quiet around the resort after the business of the summer and fall season.   These couple of weeks before deer hunting and Thanksgiving are quiet and I always wonder why more people do not come up to enjoy some quiet moments at the lake with a fireplace.  It does become a bit of a ghost town in the middle of the week.  Yesterday when the folks left Restawhile, marked the first day of nobody staying at the cabins until Friday.  It is a strange feeling when everything is empty but it will not last long.  Deer Hunting and Thanksgiving are right around the corner.  Steve just went in the woods yesterday to start cutting boughs for his wreath making business, need a wreath give him a call he makes them to order at 715 356 5405 at Lifespring

Never tire of the sunrise on Lower Kaubashine

My sister posted this post on her facebook page.  I thought it was pretty funny and true.  Apparently it happened this evening

you know you live in the northwoods when: your husband calls from the garage to tell you he is trapped in the garage waiting for a bear to go away.

I wish Katie and Bryon had taken a picture of the bear with Bryon trapped in the garage.  Atleast Bryon has things to do in the garage to keep him busy while he waited for the bear to leave

DSC00066

Wow what a warm sunny morning for November.  We opened the windows and enjoyed a rare 63 degree day.  Time to work outside and get all those late fall things done

DSC00074

The last of the boats were rolled up on shore and all the rest got a good spraying, need one more person to help stack the green boats… any volunteers?

DSC00073

The shed got a much needed organization and cleaning.  Next week it will be filled with wooden chairs

DSC00070

There has been some worried people out there about Poe.  He would like to report he is fine and has just been well camouflaged with the late fall leaves.  Thanks for noticing

DSC00061

What works better than a leaf blower?  That would be 2 leaf blowers.  Steve was 2 fisting the blowers and it was like a tornado with leaves moving

DSC00065

Troy trying to keep up with The Leaf Tornado….

DSC00054

Time to clean up the boats before winter.  One of the few times the power washer comes out.  Troy above saying a few foul words trying to get it started…

DSC00055

When acorns are combined with a hibernating s quirrel and the engine of the power washer it is not a good thing for Troy’s mood.  After many foul words and raising the bounty on the local red squirrel population the motor finally started.  It is now a bounty of 5 dollars a squirrel

DSC00043

Finally getting something done

DSC00058

No acorns were found in the leaf blower engine and Steve officially started the leaf raking season by blowing off the roofs and tree house.  I think he designed the roof of the tree house with the old TV Antennea just so he could stand up in the middle of it even now at 6 ‘4

Just another day at the office enjoying the scenery

Jan and Alan taking notes on what to do with tall those leaves when their house is done next fall and they are raking their own yard in the Northwoods.  Alan is installing the best anti squirrel system that he can find to avoid creative acorn stashing
